Above All, Walk In Love

Above all else, we are called to walk in love. Colossians 3:14 calls Love the mark of true maturity, or perfection.

Better relationships start with you! And most of the time it’s all about recognizing unhealthy patterns or attitudes we’ve created that need to be ditched! When you’re triggered or in fear by someone or something... ask yourself why? And then go read 1 Corinthians 13!

The Message translation of 1 Corinthians 13 puts it this way:

  • Love never gives up

  • Love cares more for others than for self

  • Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have

  • Love doesn’t strut

  • Love doesn’t have a swelled head

  • Love doesn’t force itself on others

  • Love isn’t always “me first”

  • Love doesn’t fly off the handle

  • Love doesn’t keep score of the sins of others and doesn’t revel when others grovel

  • Love takes pleasure in the flowering of truth and puts up with anything (this one is a true test!)

  • Love trusts God and always looks for the best, never looking back

  • Love keeps going to the end

The God kind of LOVE acts like a shield and covering... it literally covers the unbecoming actions of others. The footnote of The Passion Translation of 1 Corinthians 13:7 says: "love bears all covers all things, like a roof covers the doesn't focus on what is wrong but will bear with the shortcomings of others. And like a roof protects and shields, you could say love springs no leak. It is a safe place that offers shelter, not exposure."

Human nature rejects out of fear and self-protection, but the God kind of love is absent of fear - enabling us to truly step beyond judgement, anger, comparison, and criticism and love like Jesus did.
